Interview with Druid Romances author, Lyn Horner.

It's my pleasure to welcome the wonderful romance author, Lyn Horner. I thoroughly recommend reading her enchanting Druid romances. 

1.     When and why did you decide to become an Indie writer?

In the summer of 2010. I’d resisted the idea for a long while, thinking like others that going Indie would label me as an amateur. That summer a multi published friend clued me in about Kindle Publishing and urged me to give it a try. It took me several months to learn about manuscript formatting, creating a book cover, etc. I published my first book, Darlin’ Druid, in November 2010.

2.     What genre do you write in and what genre do you prefer to read?

I’ve written mainly western historical romances up until now, but I plan to branch out into other sub-genres soon.

Historical romances have long been my favourite genre to read, although I also enjoy a good mystery like yours, Mel.

3.     Where do you sell most books, USA or UK, Amazon or Barnes and Noble?

Amazon.com is by far the best selling place for me so far.

4.     During your childhood who was your biggest influence?

My dad influenced me to a great extent. He nudged me into studying art, resulting in my first career as a fashion illustrator and art instructor. I also soaked up his love of western movies, TV programs and novels. Daddy was a native Texan, so a love of the Old West came naturally to him.

5.     Are you fortunate enough to write full-time?

Yes, I’m happy to say I do write full-time. Not that I’m very fast at it, mind you. I stew over every sentence, every word until they sound just right. Yup, I said “sound” right. My characters talk to me and if I don’t transcribe their words correctly, they nag me until I do.

6.     If Hollywood came knocking who would you want to play your main character?

For Rose Devlin, the heroine of my new book Dearest Druid, I would choose Molly Quinn. She plays Richard Castle’s daughter Alexis on the hit American TV series Castle. She’s young, pretty and has the perfect shade of red-blonde hair to play Rose.

For Choctaw Jack, Rose’s hot Native American hero, I might pick Zahn Tokiya-ku McClarnon, a Native American actor who often appears on the TV series Longmire.

7.     Name 6 people, dead or alive, you’d love to have as guests seated around your dinner-table.

That’s a tough one! I’d like to meet so many historical figures. Since I’m a big fan of the Old West, I’ll pick folks from that era. Wyatt Earp has to be on my list since I’m very distantly related to him. Oh, and I’d love to meet Crazy Horse and snap a picture of him. None exist, you see, and he was the preeminent Sioux war chief at the Battle of the Big Horn, known to most as the Custer Massacre. Another great Native American I’d like to sit down with is Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce whose quote “From where the sun now stands, I will fight no more forever.” has been immortalized.

As for the ladies, I’d choose my own ancestors, grandmother Bessie Mae Leggett Horner, grgr grandmother Mary Leggett, and grgrgr grandmother Susan Leggett. I’d love to pick their brains about our family history. Genealogy is a passion I’ve put aside in order to write. One day I hope to get back to it.

8.  What one piece of advice have you found the most important in your writing career?

Be persistent! Don’t give up on yourself just because of a few, or even a bunch, of rejection letters.

9.     What are your plans for the coming year?

There’s an Irish historical on my back burner, about halfway done, that I  hope to publish sometime in 2014. I’m also planning a series of short books about, guess who, Druids, both past and present. The working series title in The Druid Journals.

10.     And finally, if you were stranded on a desert island what 3 books would you choose to have with you?

Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander, Jane Austin’s Pride and Prejudice, and the Zane Grey Collection from Doma Publishing. I’d need a Kindle for the last one. I suppose that’s cheating. Oh well, I write ebooks, so what can you expect? ;)
